"After several weeks of research for a home theater system to go with a newly purchased Samsung HD TV, we decided on the Samsung HT C 5500 BD Player and Receiver. Set up was quick and easy (it helped to read reviews and learn about possible issues before hand). The manual that came with the system is very detailed and helped us navigate the setup. We didn't encounter any problems and we are amazed at the high quality sound produced by this system. We purchased the Samsung wireless lan adapter to connect with the internet. Much easier to find, purchase, install and use than we expected (based some other reviews we read). The HT system is designed to integrate witht the Samsung TV, which makes setup even easier. We are pleased with the look, features, function and value of this product. Great for anyone looking for a very reasonably priced full-featured HT system."

"We bought this to replace a 5 year old Sony home theatre (also 5.1). We always loved the Sony and thought it sounded great, but when we got the Samsung setup, it made the Sony seem like an old crusty, spider-web encrusted, muted, system that you'd see in your parents' garage sale. The sound is crystal clear and I'm amazed that the rear speakers actually bring the reality-level up to what I always thought it should be. Our cats thought there was something outside our house. Just awesome!"

"This unit was simply to install. It took longer to figure out where I wanted the speakers than it did to setup !! I don't understand why you need the TOS optical & the HDMI, but whatever. And to top it off, no-where (where I purchased it) was there any info that it had PC Share capabilities !! WOW !! I was planning on using the VGA input on the TV, now I can share from ANY of my PC's on the network !! Added unexpected bonus for me... Very happy customer !!"

"The product has great sound and a number of features that allow you to tailor the sound to your particular preferences. The auto config does a particularly good job. The wireless rear speaker box (rear speakers are connected to the box) is a worthwhile add on as is the wireless internet USB. The only complaint is the design of the remote control. The buttons seem to have been placed randomly and the shape of the remote does not allow distinguishing front and back."

Have not watched a Blue Ray on it but the DVD that I watched came out bright and clear. The sound is fantastic. Actually sounds like I'm in the theater. Also hooked the WI to it and it sounds great. The built in FM tuner works better than my stereo. One of the wires is color coded wrong. Should be a lot longer."

"ONLY issue with this product is not enough component and HD inputs/outputs. When trying to use multiple devices with the surround sound such as television, PS3, and the blu-ray DVD player itself that comes with the speakers, it is a pain to switch the cables all the time for each device. There are things you can so instead of switching cables you can just use a switch, but its an inconvenience regardless. Otherwise, great product, great price. Sounds amazing."

"You know all of the features this unit have are great: internet capable, fm stereo, i-pod / i-phone dock,etc., but for me its value really boils down to two things, the picture quality of the blu-ray player and the unbelievable sound it pumps out.

After a lot of research I pulled the trigger on this unit.

When I pulled these little speakers out of the box I thought I've made a mistake, however, after setting it up, in just a few minutes, I quickly found out what it would do, and WOW it just has amazingly powerful theater quality sound to go along with the flawless play of the blu-ray disc. For the money I could not have made a better decision. In fact, I can't imagine paying anymore for anything other than this for any home theater unless you just have to have wireless rear speakers. There is no way some of the systems I've seen that cost 5 to 10 times more could sound much better than this one; it is Awesome with a capital A.

Yeah, it would be better if it had regular speaker hook-ups, on-screen recognition of remote commands, more choices for customized sound settings, etc. but for pure sound and picture quality all I can say is WOW, I just love it!"

"Wow, what an amazing sound from such small speakers. The subwoofer really packs a punch. It makes you feel like you are at the theatre. It was very easy to install, about an hour or so. The internet features are really great. Very user friendly without having to read the manual so much. It really makes a difference compared to the small speakers that are in my Samsung LED TV. Wireless speaker tower available as accessory if you want to hide the speaker wires. This is a very affordable unit. I highly recommend this product to anyone."

"I love my new home theatre system. I can watch my netflix, listen to Pandora, and watch my Blu-Ray DVDs. The picture and sound is great!! It feels like I am at the movie theatre!! "Great sound. Great physical design. Lots of volume. Basically just an awesome value. Only design flaw that irks me (being a total tech-nerd), is the ipod interface. I've used several ipod generations, an iphone 3g, 3gs and 4, to test this....and apparently once you put the device in the cradle, the only way to control the music is to use the Samsung, internal gui. This wouldn't be so bad if it allowed you to look through the songs while one is playing (to cue up the next song). Once you hit "return" to look through the folders, the music stops. This is really annoying. If you could use the ipod to navigate and pick songs too that would be a really nice feature."

"To really get your money out of the product you have to set everything up. It took me a good hour to hook it up to the internet. Most of the problem was my ISP. Firewall kept blocking it. Then i wanted to sync my laptop music and video files and that took some time. I am still trying to figure out how to add apps. Everytime I try to go to the app store i get an error message about the server not available. The only way to add apps is through the device. It would be nice if you could add them from your computer or the "PC Service Manager".

For the most part i have it up and running and it works great. Just be ready to invest some time setting all the features up."

"The product is a great product for the home, but the manual could be revised and better organized. my print was a little on the light side (hard to read) had to get a reprint from the internet. I would suggest a better trouble shooting section in the book. I would add do not try any wireless lan adapters other than the Samsung Model WIS09ABGN. Also if the Internet@TV activation screen agreement doesn't come up to activate the internet@TV. Add turnoff the system and unplug the unit for 5 minutes & try again. The agreement will return.
Also I would like to know if any how to add apps to the system, mines states I can get HULU, but the app is missing from the menu?

"Pros: The sound is excellent-has many sound options. It gets louder than you will probably ever need. Great signal/noise ration-can't even tell the speakers are on (no noticeable hiss of any sort). Design/Appearance is very good. Wide array of usage options (photos/music can easily be piped to it via hardwired ethernet connection/samsung app on computer). Remote easily doubles as a TV remote.

Cons: When mine arrived, the dvd/blu-ray door flap immediately got caught/hung up when opening, and I had to assist the tray to open. It now opens without a hitch 90% of the time. The touch sensitive open/close button on my unit works/responds intermittantly. The other buttons always respond, but this one seems to have an issue. (not a big deal because the remote button always works).

Overall: Great value for the price, would recommend getting the system. Grade A-"

FM Antenna and Remote Control

"I'm not happy that this product only allows functions, such as searching a radio station, to occur only via the remote control. Due to my experience with another home theatre, if the remote breaks or becomes discontinued, we won't be able to manually use the receiver to listen to the radio. Everything is based off the remote control - if the remote control becomes dysfunctional, breaks, or becomes discontinued, there is no other way to use the receiver. There is little manual control via the receiverFurther, I'm not happy that the FM antenna does not have good reception and only takes signals when I hold it and only in locations that aren't practical. I'm very disappointed because having a home theater with a reliable basic radio source is very important to me for when all other fancy functions fail."

"Had this HTS with the blu-ray player c5500 and have had problems for about a year now. The app's and wireless adapter have been working fine, but while playing blu-rays it will pop off to a dark screen and then I have to reboot the machine same with DVDS except they just freeze. All in all it is frustrating to have to reboot and then go back to the paticular part of the movie after rebooting. Don't recomend buying I'm going back to another brand."

"I am very disappointed in the time it takes to load. Weather I am switching between online to DVD to AM/FM it takes forever. You have plenty of time to get the popcorn ready before netflix even gets started.

It is also very annoying that when plugged into the tv the two together can only handle one process at a time. Just because I switch the tv over to antenna it doesn't mean I want the DVD on the theater system to shutdown."

this product worked great for about 6 mos.

"After several attempts at repair they are exchanging this one. It did work great untill the beginning of the year then it wouldn't play blu ray. Acouple of weeks after that it quit playing dvd's. they replaced parts the second time in, the third time they could'nt duplicate the error. when I recieved it back I was only able to blu ray and got 3/4 of the way through a dvd."

"Takes a disc FOREVER to load. Doesn't read some discs. The lack of actual buttons is cumbersom.
I wouldn't buy another Samsung blue ray again."

"I bought a refurbished unit that never really worked. The little time it did, it looked and sounded great. The store exchanged my broken unit with their last unit, which was also broke. Samsung exchanged it for another broken unit. At last, I'm getting a year newer model HT-D 5500 with built in WI-FI and 3D. I'm happy. Love this thing....."

Pros: Bright display, Inexpensive, Durable, Realistic color

"I bought this unit to upgrade to blueray from an excellent samsung dvd player. I sold that player but i'm sure it's still playing away... This blueray home theater on the other hand has been plagued with issues flakey audio poor disc reading and useless firmware upgrades... Audio channels cutting in and out and muddy sound some New dvds shuddering (ben hur is one of them)
dialog audio tracks not playing on some dvd discs (mars attacks another one)
random loss of audio sync on some bluerays (new clash of the titans)
smart sound feature is useless.
i've been familiar with samsung products and other brands on a hardware component level for nearing 20 years and rather liked samsung products except there hard drives apparently there audio and blueray players are junk as well and to be avoided"

Too much of a hassle . . .

"I bought this product (HT-C5500) thinking I was getting a steal of a deal but boy was I wrong. As soon as I setup it all up I updated the firmware and all Samsung Apps. I did this to make sure I had the latest and greatest before I did anything. So lets just jump into some pros and cons.

The Good:
-Amazing sound quality. The speakers and sound quality is without a doubt absolutely amazing. Feels like you are in a real theater.

The Bad:
-When I turn my home theater off, 80% of the time it will open/close the CD tray without me pressing eject. This happens a lot and is very annoying.
-Constantly freezes while watching a DVD. The only way to fix this is to turn off the home theater and turn it back on. Then guess what happens next . . . it freezes again.

I gave Samsung the benefit of the doubt and decided to return it and get another one of the same model. Well, on day 2 it started doing the exact same thing. CD tray opening/closing when turning off the unit and DVDs constantly freeze. So far this one is 0/2. I am going to take this one back today and try my hand at the HT-C6900 model. Hopefully it's just that one model that is having this issue and not all Samsung Home Theaters.

Look for my review on the HT-C6900 if you want an honest opinion."

Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations, dvds freeze, cd tray opens/closes without pressing eject.
