"this is the first tv i have ever owned. always having roommates i have never need to buy one. but when my roommate bought a samsung tv it was awesome. so i know when i moved i had to get one. i found this one on sale at best buy. it is definitely a good tv but now I want more i have the samsung bluray surround system with 3d so now i want a compatible 3d tv to go with it. See what you started with all you pretty colors and shiny lights."

"Beautiful and simple design. Picture looks great too! But the most unfortunate thing happened right after the expiration of 1 year warranty period- Screen got burned-in at different places permanently and they really stand out visibly. Samsung would not do anything as because the warranty just expired!"

Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations, screen burn

"I purchased this last year and it hasn't let me down. There has been no burn in - ever - and it's picture quality has been top notch. I moved this set from my living room to my bedroom and upgraded to a Samsung 51" 1080 Plasma set in my living room.
Consumer Reports rated this as very high and they were right.
If there is anything negative to say it's that they need to develop better speakers."

"I have been using this tv as a computer monitor hooked up by HDMI for about 7 months now. It stays on about 98% of the time. It has a fantastic picture with deep blacks and deep colors! The biggest downfall (with my usage) is that you can't use a resolution higher than 1280*720 without it going to an interlaced picture (looks grainy) and that there are no software Apps for it. I WILL BUY ANOTHER ONE (1080p though), and, would recommend this television to everyone and anyone. Fantastic job SAMSUNG!"

"Will not ever buy another Samsung product. We have had our TV for about 8 months and today we go to turn it on and it just clicks. How does a TV that is only 8 months old already have something wrong with it? I have several TV's that I have had for 20+ years that still work. This is ridiculous."

"My brother and I both bought new tv sets within a few months of each other.He bought a top-line Sony 40" 1080p LCD and I bought the Samsung 42" Plasma 720p.We both have the same HD cable provider but I have to say that the picture on my set looks a lot better than his and he paid quite a bit more for his Sony.I was reluctant to get a plasma set but I did some research and I figured that plasma was the way to go to get the best "bang for the buck".My Samsung has far exceeded my expectations and I won't hesitate to buy another one if the need arises."

"Picture became pixilated with reddish tint. Intermittent shutdown. Totally dead after 6 months. Would not turn on. Samsung website that I registered product on now says "Bad Serial Number" when requesting service. Poor execution."

"This TV was recommended by a friend after my old TV died. The pictures are crisp and clear and love watching everything on there. It's better than the LED and LCD TVs my friends have.. I like the way it easily integrated with my DVD player and ease of use of the controls. I wish I had known that I could not connect to the internet without the LAN adapter prior to purchase. I bought the TV in 2011 but it was a 2010 model. I wasn't aware that 2010 models did not have Internet access and I was not informed at purchase that it was a 2010 model. But that's the only drawback. Online tech support was very good also. I do recommend this TV."

"When I bought this TV, I got a GREAT deal for everything it has regarding features - looking back, I wish I had spent the little bit extra to get the "Internet TV" feature on a different model. Overall though, this TV does exactly what it needs to do - provides a crisp, clear picture, incredible HD experience sound/picture, and multiple "profiles" for picture/sound quality (e.g. Movie, Standard, HD, etc) I am very pleased with my TV."

"overall not a bad set for the money. Would have liked to see an S video port on this set. After just 11 months I now have to have service work done on it. "This is just a starter review. i will try to do a more detailed one in a few weeks.
I have had this Plasma Display Panel (PDP) for a little over a month. I have obeyed the advice of previous owners of Plasma Panels & given the Unit a break-in period of 30 days. hence my decision to write only a preliminary review now.
Right off the bat i must remark, that even with the picture settings reduced to 50% or less of their optimal value this set is remarkable. The black settings, the separation of colors, the clarity of picture, even in action scenes is remarkable.
After watching for two weeks i used two DVD's (sorry no Blu-Ray yet) to judge the picture quality and clarity (with the setings jacked-up a bit more). So, the first was the new Star Trek movie. Woweeee !!!! It was beautiful !! The scenes on the Bridge, the lighting was magnificent, the outside shots of the Enterprise as they leave Earth and approach in the shuttle. The shots of the Docking Station surrounded by deepest, blackest space was amazing ! Real Blacks, with the stars & galaxies cleanly separated. The scene where the team jumps from the shuttle down to the drill over Vulcan was a test for action scenes. Passed easily !!! The rest of the movie was just whipped-cream. The shots of the Romulan ship, the fight scenes as the Enterprise leaves warp to find the fleet destroyed. I relished these in slow-motion, and this is not the Blu-Ray version !!!
Look for my next, more detailed review in a few weeks. I'll try to hook-up my PC, and hopefully will have a SAMSUNG Blu-Ray player by then.

I did a lot of research before venturing into the 'flat-screen' world. Since I am single and my children are grown, I truly had a hard time spending that much money on a 'non-necessity'. "This is my first foray into digital TV and I couldn't be happier. Going from a 25" regular set to a 42" flat screen is a bit of a change, but I got used to it very quickly. I love the color rendition, the sharpness of the picture and the deep black. Watching my first DVD on it the other night was a revelation. If it's as good and durable as any of the other Samsung products I own, I'll be a happy camper. Great price too!"

"I bought this after having a 36" Samsung and I'm cfrazy about it. The picture is amazing and the sound is great particularly after adjusting the equalizer. It is best to watch in a darkened room which eliminates any glare on the screen.The adjustments available are easy to understand and will increase your viewing pleasure. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a plasma HDTV at a reasonable price."

"I can say that this TV is definitely worth more than the low price I paid for it. Sure, it is "only 720p", but 95% of the HD available (except for Blu-Ray and certain PPV channels) is still only 720p or 1080i anyway. That would be the only "downfall" of this TV. The picture is excellent, and the rich colors and deep blacks outperform a lot of LCD tv's in costing twice as much. I would reccommend anyone looking for a 42" TV to give this one a look."

"I can't say enough about this TV! It's truly plug and play with simple instructions and easy set up. Granted, its not chock-a-block with tons of features but it's just a great piece of equipment! I don't use or want all the extra stuff, you can have it if you want as this unit accepts a variety of different plug-ins and upgrades but for me it provides two very important features...ease of use and awesome picture.
Technology is great but these days I just want to sit down, relax and watch tv...without thinking about it. This is the perfect no nonsense product.
By the way, using the HDMI from the cable box provides a 1920x1080i full screen image with no annoying bars on the sides."

"The 42"Diagonal Plasma 720p is a great addition to the family room, crystal clear, great color, easy set up! It far exceeded my expectations. The reviews on this site and others rang true regarding 720 vs1080 when the display size is under 50", there is no blurring or delay when high speed action is displayed. "I bought this television via Amazon in June of 2010. At first the picture was excellent but within a couple of weeks we started to notice a scattering of red dots on the screen visible when the picture had a light colored background. This problem of dots has, over the last six months, spread and become worse. The tv's picture is now distinctly marred whenever it is showing anything, with the problems mostly concentrated in the lower half of the screen."

"Can't think of anything bad at all to say about this TV other than the speakers on it being way to small and tinty sounding. If you want a good quality plasma TV at a very good price then I would recomend you consider this set. The only thing is you will want to def invest in an external speaker system. The speaker's are the only reason for 4 stars on performance."

"This Series 450 is great out of the box easy to install and picture quality in HD is incomparable to any TV I've ever had. I have a 50" Samsung 1080i in my livingroom and 42" 720i in the bedroom. The 450 series needs a good HD hookup for the quality I want to see, so I hooked to an all HD box from our signal provider and it is clear as a photo. The price is ridiculously low now for plasmas and I haven't even looked at the LED/LCD's lately. I know the prices on them are too high for my budget."

"This is my 2nd Samsung, but 1st Plasma. Everything is GREAT except for one extremely annoying feature -and that is the rectangular pop up in the upper left of the screen that appears each time you change a channel. It stays on for about 4 sec and shows the signal source, signal freq, time etc. There is no way to bypass/disable this annoyance. Had I been aware I would not have purchased this model. I love everything els about it."

"Let me start out by simply saying that we love our new Samsung Plasma TV. The picture is fantastic. This is our second plasma as we already own a 50" Pioneer Plasma that we purchased 4 years ago. When comparing the two pictures from the sets, our new Samsung is right on par if not better then our other set. I am really impressed by the picture quality for the price that we paid for this TV - we will definitely be buying another Samsung for our next TV !!!"

"I love my TV. I owned a plasma a few years back and screen burned a line down the middle. They have solved this and I like the picture better than an LCD. I like the hardshell of a plasma. LCDs often can have red dots burned in as well."

"We had a 1080i CRT TV so changing over to a 720p plasma was a little worrisome. I have to say I am not disappointed. The picture is great, maybe not quite as good in details (you still can't beat an HD CRT dispaly), but the colors appear richer and deeper. For the price you can not beat it, just tremendous value and a very good picture."

"Mounted this tv on the wall in my bedroom. Only downside I could find is that the cable hookups are not recessed enough to allow a close mount to wall. The wall mount I used had spacers that allowed for more distance between the wall and tv.

"This is our first HDTV and overall I'm pretty satisfied. We sit about 12 ft away from the TV, and the picture from our U-Verse and my Xbox is crystal clear and the colors really pop out and it's really nice. I noticed that this webpage says that this TV is 720p, but right now I've got 1080i feeds displaying (it says so in the upper left box.)
Although one thing I don't like ( I didn't deduct a star because it's not a big deal) is that sound coming out of the 3.5mm jack is not controllable by the remote. Our old SDTV did this, and I'm sad to see it go. I use aux. speakers because the built-in speakers are (I feel are) tinny and lacking bass."

"This is an awesome t.v. It has one of the best picture quality's in a t.v. I have ever seen I have it hooked to my Directv DVR and the picture quality is tremendous. "We shopped several different brands before settling on Samsung PN42C450 plasma TV. We compared them in the stores next to Panasonic, LG and other brands. We have been using the set for about 2 weeks now and find the picture simply awsome. Of course it is a big change from the 27" CRT we replaced with the Samsung plasma. The only downside is that we had to pay the extra monthly fee to our cable company for HD programing. Everything works great, it looks good and the speakers are more than adequate for our needs. All in all a great product. We are connected to the cable box thru HDMI and the HD images are fantastic. Regular tv also looks better on this set. Now I have to go shopping for a good Blu-ray player to pair with this set."

"I bought this TV for the bedroom to replace an old CRT. I have a 50" 1080 Plasma downstairs which I love. The 42" is 720 but hooked up to an HD box and the picture is excellent once dialed in. The sound from the speakers is actually quite good and all I need for the bedroom. Samsung offers a lot of adjustability on this set for fine tuning. Great TV for a bedroom at a very good price, this set looked better to me than the competition from Panasonic and LG. This set is a great value, just wish they made a 42" 1080 plasma."

"I have owned this tv for three months now and I have zero complaints. The picture quality is superb. For the price, you cannot get anything better in its class. I bought this plasma because I hate motion blur. You will pay a lot more for a tv that will eliminate motion blur if its an LCD. It took me a long time to pick out a TV that would fit my budget and this has not disappointed."

"...after i unpacked and got all set up and watching.....the tv's picture went out.....its been in service for over a week now. service man diagnosed problem says it usually occurs in tv's that are usually two yrs old ...not 4 hrs....."

"This is a tremendous tv overall and a super value. As a radiologist, I look at the very best monitors available and am very pleased to have purchased this unit for my den. The colors are great. The resolution is good for 720p but not quite as sharp as 1080. The features are very good with a variety of inputs. The sound feeds into my surround sound system and works great. The value cannot be beat! I highly recommend this unit."

"The best TV ever compared to other plasmas this by far the best plasma from Samsung great quality even though it is 720p there isn't a lot of difference between 720p and 1080p and if you want to save money I would go for this one."

"Wow, I really could not be more pleased with this product. I've had it about 19 days and have used just about every feature it has to offer. I fully expected the built in sound system to be just awful like the rest. I was surprised that it sounded as well as it did.I worried about the piano black finish looking dirty quickly and surprisingly it doesn't. Very vibrant picture and outstanding response time when gaming. The ONLY things I would like to see included is a Media Center Extender or Netflix built in, and perhaps an actual Power OFF instead of a standby/hibernation mode to save power."

"For this price, this TV can't be beat. The picture is fantastic and the sound is great. There are plenty of hook ups for game consoles, PCs, Blu-ray players, etc. The only minor complaint is that the remote can be sometimes less than responsive, but I'm even stretching on that.
