"I have had this phone since 2011 and it has been through it all. I have dropped it, kicked it, ran it over and my three year old has gotten a hold of it a couple of times. This phone has never missed a beat. The only real damage on this phone is a scratched screen. I can't believe it.
I have recommended this phone and SAMSUNG to many people. I have also, unwanted, demonstrated the durability. I can not say enough about this phone and Samsung alone. I now have bought the Galaxy Precedent to replace it.

"Most people these days own an iPhone or an Android smartphone but some still own standard phones such as the t401g. This phone was my very first and it was great until I dropped it on concrete at school by accident. The screen would turn black and wouldn't work unless I turned the phone off and then back on again. After a while of doing that the screen just wouldn't work so I got a different phone. I was 13 years old when I got this phone and the year was 2010. Since everyone I knew had a cell phone I really wanted one. It was then my 13th birthday and my parents got me the t401g with the Straight Talk wireless plan. I was really excited and happy that I had finally gotten a phone. I loved the fact that it had a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a camera(which was a really big thing back then even though it was only 1.3 megapixels), a dedicated camera key, a good screen(for its size), the color of the phone, the external design, the good battery life, the option to change the theme from white to black or from black to white, the easy and straightforward menus and user interface, and the messaging interface. The only downsides to the phone are that it doesn't come with a standard micro USB charging/data port and it doesn't have a standard headphone jack."

"I have had MANY cell phones and I would keep one for a short peroid of time and almost treat them as disposable, UNTIL I got a Samsung T401G cell phone! I have not gotten a smart phone yet, but until I do I am sticking with my T401G and when I do move up to a smart phone, it will now ALWAYS be a Samsung! This phone is reliable, and most of all has features I love, like a huge keyboard of MANY letters, numbers and an easy to use them all and punctuation. Its text message continues on to the next one when one is full and dont make me start an entire new text, which I love and it is lightweight, durable and has GREAT coverage and reliability foe my calls, text and web functions. The music sounds GREAT, pictures LOOK great, and the advantage of a memory card for extra large space is awesome! I love having downloaded pis to send to friends! I even have videos in my phone! Samsung has won me over with its T401G and I cant wait to move on to a smart phone, when I can stand to part with this one, that is! Thank you samsung for your craftmanship of great products! Keep up the good work!"

"I bought this phone on a trip, when I discovered I had left my other two at home. All of the features are user-friendly and I love the slide-out keyboard. I'm editing and downloading my own ringtones and pictures, using a micro-sd card and reader. I really like the phone lock; I have a habit of putting the phone in my pants pocket and I don't worry about punching numbers randomly. Only glitch so far--I had to order the headphones b/c of the flat charger port (not really a big deal). Overall I'd say I would buy it again without hesitation."

"I love this phone. The first one that I got was a Samsung Messenger. That phone stopped working when I tried to get the mobile web browser to work on it. So far, the only problem I have had with this phone has been getting prank calls on it. But, that was fixed with a call to the service provider."

"This is my fist slider/QWERTY phone and despite my big thumbs I really enjoy using it. I'm not as fast as my son on the keyboard, but getting the hang of it. Some may complain the phone is a little heavy, but it has a nice rugged feel, not cheap and flimsy. The built in web browser is adequate for me to check web email, NYR scores on ESPN, plus news headlines on CNN and FOX. I was able to find a java based IM app to download and use with Yahoo, MSN, ICQ , AIM, Facebook and others. All in all this is a great phone!"

"This is beyond any doubt the best and option inclusive cell phone for the price. This is truly a treasure and I would have expected to pay 2 to 3 times the price for all of the included features. My only complaint is that the instruction manual included is very sad, it only points out the basic functions and to get the most out of the options contained I really had to search the web and download a much larger and more informative Adobe Acrobat file. BUY THIS PHONE BEFORE YOU SPEND WAY TOO MUCH ON ONE THAT DOESNT DO HALF OF THE THINGS THIS DOES."

"I've had this phone since December 2010 and have been very pleased with it in general. Pros: slide-out keyboard is fun and easy to use, screen is easy to see, size and weight of phone, ability to use earbuds with mic for conversations, can receive email. Cons: sound is not as clear as previous cellphones I've owned, is not compatible with Samsung PC Studio 3 for unknown reasons, I have yet to discover a way to reply to or write emails (not mentioned in manual) using the browser and Gmail, smooth plastic back is easily scratched."

"I have owned this phone for about 3 months, Service provider is Trac-phone /Net-10. I have had no problems with the phone. It works good for texting. Carrier service is so/so dead spots and No network, then other times it will pick up good in the same location?????? I wished it would interface with them better, my carrier is AT&T for this area.
You have to have a belt carrier, if you carry it in your pocket you must keep the phone locked, buttons way to easy to activate."

"I am an older woman and was not used to how to work this phone but after just pushing buttons and trial and error I have most of it figured out. "1st phone ive ever had, and it is pretty cool, i have to say...all of your basic features..all of the buttons are like rubber but firm so you dont have to worry about them like ripping off or anything...i bought mine at walmart and good service all around the phone attracts fingerprints and could get oily very easily..so just be clean when you use this phone..doesnt feel cheap, feels solid ( i hope you get what i'm saying),just don't drop it. i wish they had like different colors of the phone and more customizable options, but for your basic starter phone i cant complain..."

"This phone has all the features I could possibly use, and at a fraction of the cost of a phone sold by a "contract" provider. I may have to pay by the minute, but I am getting my money's worth for every one of those minutes."

"Would love a protective hard cover that can snap on the front and back, have to be careful to not scratch it, wish I had known beforehand that there is not a good cover this phone. I would have chosen a different phone."

"This product is great for almost everything except some of the simple things it just won't support. This phone will not let you personalize a ringtone for your text messages. The text tones are limited to the tones that come with the phone. It gets very annoying."

"Very good texting phone, but many of the options are locked out. Customization of the phone is limited. Cannot save pictures directly to memory card and when transfering looses all dates taken, Haven't figured out how to transfer data from direct usb transfer. Java apps not cleared to talk to the network. Cannot change or give apps permisiion to connect.
Like I said, good potential but didn't finish the details. For example, the browser button is fixed to the home screen and is always getting accidentally pushed giving my carrier free money. No way to change. Bad ergonomics Samsung...."

"I bought this phone and only 6 months later it broke. The phone would turn on and then reboot and continue to do so until i removed the battery. I called tech support for my service provider they sent a replacement of the same phone it has only been 3 months and it has also broken doing the exact same thing! My service provider is now sending a second replacement of this phone it is not a very good phone if the same error repeats like this!!!"

"While I appreciate zero dropped calls and always getting good reliable connectivity for voice and text the browser features are inadequate - for example, when I tried to install gmail the transfer aborted and I've never been able to use it. The internet access is so slow it isn't usable. Also, most of the menus aren't customizable - for example, you can't set a default group for the contacts list. Also, if I have more than one contact number for someone I'm never sure which number will receive the text."

"I bought this phone for my daughter as a straight talk phone. I didn't want to add her to our contract plan because of her age and thought this would be an excellent alternative. She does text alot and so far no problem at all with the phone except for the sound quality. It worked fine when I first got it, but now, about 2 weeks later, you can barely hear it ringing on your end when you place a call and even worse when talking to someone. Lucky for me that she is more into texting than talking, but I am very disappointed in that I feel that my money was wasted on this phone. We also are not able to find a cover for this phone which for an 11 year old girl is very important."

"Of all the cell phones I have ever owned this one has to be the worst.
You can barely hear the ring and that is if you are right next to it. Don't even think you can hear it if it is in another room!

"I just got my 3rd replacement of this model and i still suffer from bad signals. The phone reception is awful. I was upgrading from LG 290C to this phone. I had absolutely no problem with the lg cell signal, I've had nothing but problems with this one dropping calls. I guess i have to settle with the LG and through this one away......."

"This phone was a HUGE waste of money! It worked great for the first month & then it randomly started turning itself off. At first it was just once or twice a week and now I can't even complete a text message without it turning off. Save your money and get another phone!"

"I like the features but when it comes to using the web,the screen is to small to use.There isn't much to see of the web because of the small screen and you can't use it becuase of that.That was very dissapointing.And as for setting my perfered location for Bing and Yahoo, I'am always having to set and save my location again every time i return.What's up with that.I'd say trying to use the web on the T401G was a waste of my time."

"I had the phone for less than a year and it randomly turns off regularly. I do not see any option for re-loading the software. Aside from this, the features are fairly basic. It does not hold enough text messages, so I keep having to delete old ones. It is nice that it has a full keyboard.

I will probably post this on some other sites to warn others that this phone might have issues."

"Very disappointing, a texting phone with no ID on received text messages unless the message is opened and paid for. Even my old samsung T201G showed who the message was from before it was opened, and I have the same service I had on that phone. Samsung please fix this with a firmware update? Would be an excellent product if not for this oversight."
