Pros: Built-in speakers, Bright display, Inexpensive, Durable, Realistic color, Lightweight
I have wanted an android phone for a while, and I've been waiting for one that was well reviewed and affordable. The Samsung Prevail/Precedent is THAT phone: a high quality android phone at an affordable price.
I had a little bit of experience with android from using a tablet, so it did not take me long to figure out most of this phone's basic functions. However, it has many powerful and sophisticated features, so it is worth your time to work your way through the owner's manual page by page to learn which features are most useful to you, and how to use those features.
The folks who have been unhappy with their Prevail or Precedent often focus on how quickly the battery charge gets drained. However, the owner's manual shows you how to use an included widget and included task manager to turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth when they are not needed, close unused apps, turn off GPS location when not in use, turn off "synch" when not in use, etc. After learning how to manage the battery, I was able to extend the life of a battery charge from around 8 hours to a more useful 18 hours.
I have been very pleased with the quality of voices on phone calls...loud, clear, and natural sounding. The speaker phone is also loud and clear. Music played through the speaker sounds good, although music sounds much better through earbuds or with the phone plugged into high quality computer speakers.
Although I often get only one or two "bars" on the signal meter indoors, I have not yet had even one dropped call at home. The tougher test will be downtown skyscrapers...I've not had a chance to use my phone downtown.
The camera has only a two megapixel sensor, but the photos taken outdoors in good sunlight have a natural color balance and look very nice on a computer screen. They don't have the fine detail necessary to make 8 x 10 enlargements, but can make good 4 x 6 prints. The lack of flash means that an indoor subject needs to be near a sunny window or under intense lighting. With good lighting, you can take acceptable indoor photos. The video function is very basic...fun to play with, but it will not take the quality of videos you could get with a "real" video camera.
I prefer the "stock" Android keyboard, and with a day or two or practice, can type almost as quickly as I did on my prior phone's physical keyboard. Holding the phone sideways produces a larger keyboard. The phone's menus provide ways to customize the keyboard to suit your preferences, such as turning off the vibrate function and the "auto correct" functions.
The screen has mid-range specs, but provides outstanding performance. I was showing a friend who has a mega-dollar phone a music video. He was amazed at the sharpness of the detail and the richness of the color.
I now have about 50 apps on my phone, and they have all worked well. The phone is integrated into the Android Market, making it fast and easy to download new apps. The included app manager lets you then move your new app over to the SD card, conserving the phone's own memory. I have now reached the phone's internal memory limit, so I will only install new apps that can be stored on the SD card.
It is easy to find essential accessories, such as batteries, chargers, screen protectors, and silicone skins to protect the attractive appearance of the phone. This phone is going to be a "hit"...it will be the phone that introduces android to a much, much wider audience.

I got rid of my Iphone 4 to get another droid phone and didn’t want to stay with my provider. I found this on boost mobiles site for a price I felt comfortable paying considering I was paying around 90 a month for my Iphone. The physical memory of this is very small maybe like 300 mb so you can’t run all the bells and whistles all the time. But for me to be able to get my email facebook updates text and phone calls for 55 a month I couldn’t pass it up oh and I can still play any of the games on the phone that are on the droid market. I work on computers for a living and if you understand how those work these phones go hand in hand with a desktop or laptop. I've read alot of reviews saying the phone freezes on people make sure not to overload it and kill your apps you are not using because they will make the phone freeze if you peak the physical memory of the phone to its max. Make sure that you delete programs you don’t use and don’t need its wasted space and store things on your SD card not physical memory. I've read reviews on how the battery doesn’t last long turn off the background data, auto-sync, gps satellites, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth unless you need them on. My battery last about 2 days on a full charge with me constantly using the phone through the day. I’ve read reviews on how the phone over heats download Battery Solo Widget not only does it tell you the status of the battery but it tells you Temp, Voltage, and Health but if you don’t want it to overheat don’t peak out the physical memory its making your phone work harder than it needs to. There’s other little tricks you can do to the phone but I will let you figure those out and have fun with the phone all in all its a great entry level phone for the price now it’s not as fast as my gf's Galaxy 2 S but it holds its own I’m very satisfied with this phone.

# of SAMSUNG products I own:6-10
Pros: Built-in speakers, Bright display, Inexpensive, Realistic color, Lightweight, excellent value
Cons: no hard shell, battery life is too short by about 3 hours, needs a nice set of buds
Functionality is pretty good, mostly on par with iPhone with some differences in the way apps are started, remaining running and multi-task.
Usually stable, BUT this phone occasionally goes Tango Uniform for no apparent reason. Removing the battery and replacing it, then a restart always solves the problem, but it should never do this.
If you start this phone and you are not within range of a network it just keeps repeating the boot cycle turning itself on and off. What is up with that? It is just silly behavior.
The battery life is less than iPhone and iPhone is NOT known for battery life. This needs to be fixed. You can turn a lot of stuff off like bluetooth, wi-fi and GPS to extend battery life, but even if you don't use these power-hungry features the battery is just about done at 3:00 PM after the normal number of calls during the day...just from phone use. This needs to be fixed.
There is no hard-shell case for this phone. This needs to be fixed. A hard shell case is not a complicated accessory, but it is a necessary one. Either offer a hard shell or partner with Otterbox and make sure they offer one.
Calls are acceptably clear. The navigation blows iPhone away...period. Works great with my WEP350 headset. It did not come with a headset, although it is an EXCELLENT music player. The speakers blow the iPhone away. Loud and clear. Still need a nice comfortable set of buds with the phone. It will be easy to include better ones than the ones Apple provides.
So FIX THE BATTERY CAPACITY, get us an OTTERBOX or similar hard shell and I will be completely happy not using my iPhone anymore.

Cons: Did not meet expectations, camera low quality
I have to say, usually I swear by Samsung, but in this case, I was a bit disappointed. I went from an LG android to this one, and I would have thought the Samsung would have been the better phone, but I was wrong. The camera on the Samsung is low quality. Forget about any of the bar code readers. This phone can't read them. That alone surprised me. Especially since almost everything has those little boxes on them now-a-days that contain info that can be entered directly into your phone. This seems like a no-brainer to add into a phone. Plus, they put out the phone, and I try to find the case or cover for it, and I get told over and over again, "They haven't put that out yet." Um...wouldn't it make sense to release the accessories when your release the phone? Then, as if all of this wasn't enough, I get the phone home, and within the first three days, the phone is locking up, I have to take the battery out to restart it, or the phone won't start without me taking the battery out and putting it back in. Now, I'll admit, customer service was really helpful, and they had me send it in at no charge to me, but, the fix.....they updated the software. I just bought the phone..shouldn't it have come with the latest software? And you mean to tell me that an automatic update couldn't have been sent over the network to update the phones? As it is, when I got the phone back, I had to go through all the updated software actually installing..so how did they know if it fixed the problem? Like I said, I usually swear by Samsung, but when it comes to this phone...run the other way.

Cons: to much bloatware, can't remove useless to me apps, can't stop some apps fro updating to save space
So, as I was looking for an alternative to my previous android phone, which shall remain nameless. I came across this awesome looking phone!
Now that I have owned the phone for a couple of months I only have a couple of improvement ideas.
First, is that some apps such as Samsung's choice for a social app, I do not even use and can do nothing about the space, power, and time it takes to uninstall the updates. Just to free up a meg or two of space on my phone for apps I want.
Second, it would be real nice if the phones had flash on them. I know I have looked forward to that and found out that this phone is yet to be compatible with that streaming format.
Third, I have tried to get one or two apps my coworkers have. Apparently, I can not use a few apps for some kind of programing is different. Would it be too much to ask that the phones are more universal for such programing issues?
On a brighter note, I love this phone charges on any USB capable charger, device such as a computer, and even my USB slot in my car! My previous one did not even think of trying to charge anywhere but its charger. I was surprised to find that the outlet used was not becoming an issue, LOL!
In closing for me personally, I just want to control what apps I have installed, which ones update, and not be limited for any silly reasons. I know it doesn't sound like much to me. However, it obviously is a big thing to the makers of this phone.
Overall I am happy with this phone. I hope to have more control over my apps in the future!

This was my first phone, so when I started looking , I didn't exactly know what I wanted in a one. When I found the Prevail, I got everything that I wanted, along with things I didn't even know I wanted but now have and use regularly. The phone is a good size: not too big so that it won't fit in your pocket, but not too small so that it is still useful (Swype helps with that). It is plenty fast enough for me, but I don't multi-task as much as other people, which might slow it down more. I also don't expect my phone to be as fast as the latest computers hooked up to high speed internet, so maybe my expectations are more realistic than others'. The touchscreen is better than I was expecting, and typing is easy with Swype even though the keyboard is rather small. The one problem, though it afflicts all smartphones, is the battery. It will last hours (or days sometimes) if you are just using it to talk or text, but will drain quickly with constant use like gps or browsing. It hasn't really affected me yet because I am always near a charger at home and can charge it every night if I need, but if you are away from a charger, you may need to hold off on things to save battery. Overall, this is a very good phone and a great entry to mid level smart phone. I would highly recommend it for the casual talker, texter, emailer, navigator, or browser.

Pros: Inexpensive, Realistic color, Lightweight, size, design, ease of use
Cons: Not high def, very small memory, no camera flash
they could have made this much better, a little higher end. i know that if they made it better, it would have cost higher too. i wouldn't mind paying a little extra if the product will perform extremely well. i wish that they make a new version of this phone with better capabilities. but i also hope that they retain the size. i love the size of this phone, not obnoxiously big like the other phones with the same class. this phone is the same size as the one being sold by that fruit company but their phone has a much higher specs.
some of the things i wish they would upgrade: memory. the memory on this phone is way too small for a smartphones. smartphones are voracious for memory so it is quite disappointing that we cannot maximize the phone's potential because of the memory. i cannot install the apps that i want because there is not enough memory on the phone. next, better camera (with flash), third, display. though the display is very good, i don't think it would hurt if it was a little bit higher, a better processor. i was thinking of buying the galaxy s 4G but i having second thoughts because i was turned off by how big it is.
other than that, i am extremely very happy with this phone. yeah, there are some lags here and there but nothing is perfect. again, i wouldn't mind paying more if i know that it is worth it.

Pros: Built-in speakers, Bright display, Inexpensive, Durable, Realistic color, Lightweight
Cons: bad reception, low internal phone memory
I couldn't wait to get my hands on this Android phone for Boost Mobile. It wasn't expensive, compared to other Androids out there...and I could keep my low monthly phone bill. I love the features, navigation, and the vast choices out there on the Marketplace. What I don't love is the reception I get with this device or the amount of space in the internal memory.
I have a hard time getting reception in many places (especially my home). I can't say that it's my phone service because I've been with them for 4 years and have not had any problems with reception on any other phone with them.
The only other problem I have with the phone is the lack of internal memory. A microSD card can be used, but moving apps to the card to save internal memory is nearly impossible. One must root the phone and install software to be able to do it. Even then, the data from these "moved" apps are still filling up internal memory. I find myself receiving a message when my internal memory is getting full nearly every other week.
All in all, I say this is a good phone for someone who wants to get familiar with Android without spending too much, or for those who want to do more with there phone, without doing too much.
I truly love this phone, but wish a couple things were better.

The ram is laughable after having a 32Gig touchscreen MP3 player for a year, but I wanted the smart phone without the huge monthly costs of a mainstream smart phone. I do really like the phone. There aren't a lot of covers available, but I like the simple one I found.
It's a little slow, and I have to clear things out WAY more often than I'd like, but I'd definitely recommend it to a friend looking to reduce monthly phone costs or get a smart phone without the big costs for minimal access. It's nice not to have to carry around a phone and my MP3 player/planner/kids entertainment anymore. I LOVE having internet access anywhere I go.
The one complaint I have is that while setting up the phone and syncing my contact lists, anything that was added from my social networking friends list is not editable, I have to call a number before it will allow me to add it to a contact from my social networking friends list. This has made for a LONG frustrating process in trying to add things from my old basic phone when a lot of my friends don't have their # on their social networking acounts.
The calls occasionally drop and are a bit more crackly than my last phone...
Oh, and the speaker kicks the heiney off any other tiny device I've ever had.

Pros: Bright display, Lightweight
Cons: very poor battery life
Where to begin. I've been using Blackberry phones for 7 years now, mainly with work in mind. I love them. But I decided it was time to retire my personal Blackberry, and wanted to try a Droid phone, but will not agree to being stuck in a contract. Along came the Boost Mobile ads for the Prevail. I went out and got it immediately.
I overall LOVE the android platform, and got used to it fairly quickly. Its a great phone, with good sound, and a good clear screen.
BUT, and this is a big issue to me, is that the battery life is so poor, I almost took it back and switched it with Boosts Blackberry Curve. If you use the phone for ANYTHING other than phone calls and text messaging, your battery life goes down the drain. Even talking on the phone much will reduce it to a matter of a few hours battery time. Just sitting on standby with little use, the battery starts to die after 12 hours. After using it to browse the web or the Market the first day I had it fully charged, just 4 hours of use the battery died. This is something that Needs to be fixed. Having to download an app to constantly kill tasks is unacceptable. My Blackberry batteries in all of the ones I've own with normal use have lasted 2 full days.

Cons: Did not meet expectations, 5 consecutive days unlmited plan
I like Prevail as a hardware but the service that goes with it through Boostmobile.com is something to be beware of. If any of you choose Day Unlimited Plan, you have to understand that you are required to deposit a minimum of $10 for each boost at least once in any 90 day period. I am talking to occassional users only so you should be aware that you have no control over the days you want to use your Prevail. Boost mobile will debit $2 on the next 5 consecuive days whether you need your Prevail or not. There is no provisoin for you to start and stop mobile service on day to day basis until your $10 deposit is used up.. This is how Day Unlimited Plan works... I thought that I could choose which day I want to use at $2 a day.. I was wrong.. and frustrated as well as disappointed. I need Prevail as a lifeline for day outings like riding my bicycle or short trips.. I have to blow $10 every time and I probably have to plan outings in the next 5 consecutive days.. This is not the lifestyle I am envisioning.. though.. If you boost your Prevail with $25 , Boostmobile will deduct yoru $25 on the next 12 consecutive days... , sorry whether you need it or not... thank you!

before i bought this phone i did extemsive research on features, reviews, and recommendations. this phone is better then i expected, however i still consider it a low-end GALAXY phone.
FEATURES: even though this is not a galaxy S model, this is sstill a feature-packed phone based on the fact that it has the android 2.2 (froyo) operating system. the touchscreen is as responsive and the speed is somewhat close to it's cousin the galaxy S models. i have a lot of recommendations for features that are already on the galaxy S phones, but i have no problems at all with the features already present on this phone.
REVIEWS: i found complaints mainly more about the battery life then anything else. my battery life was very bad the first 2 days but i downloaded 2 apps and now i get the most out of my battery.
RECOMMENDATIONS: this phone is recommended for the first time galaxy user (this will be a different world for you) as well as the experienced android user ( if you're coming from the higher end android phones, you won't miss much).
CONCLUSION: this is the best phone for the price. yes there is a bad apple in every bunch, however don't give up hope too quickly.

Pros: Bright display, Inexpensive
Cons: Did not meet expectations, poor battery life, poor memory, periodic random restarts, severe lagging
I bought the Samsung Galaxy Prevail because I found it for the price of a phone I wanted but could not find in my local area. Seeing as online, the Prevail is a more expensive phone, I expected this was a better deal...
within an hour the phone updated and restarted itself 5 times, default Android software that I didn't intend to use required update and the phone was out of memory before half of these were updated and I have to constantly stop the updates on them and remove the updates, but I'm not allowed to uninstall the software i do not want..
I text, answer email and maybe surf a website...the battery has to be on charge 75% of the time, if I do anything while the phone is plugged in charging it takes me energy than the phone is charging... I have to constantly go into the task manager and Clear Level 1+2 RAM out so the phone will charger faster... with in 2 minutes randomly 4-16 applications are running in the background and that is with the task manager screen never changing...
It periodically restarts itself, and the screen freezes because the background applications it automatically runs suck up so much RAM

Pros: Built-in speakers, Bright display, Inexpensive, Durable, Realistic color, Lightweight
Cons: Did not meet expectations, not enough internal memory, pre-loaded bloatware
The Prevail is my first Android. I was really looking forward to playing with a bunch of apps. That's what you get an Android for, right? Apps. But the combination of pre-installed bloatware and low internal memory on this phone makes it virtually useless for apps. You can't delete the ton of apps that come preloaded on the phone and you can't move them to your memory card. Also, some apps automatically update, even if you don't want them to, so you get surprised with a "low memory" warning. When this happens, the phone won't even give you your notifications. I have 3, count them 3, apps on my phone that I installed and that can't be put on the memory card. That's all I get. No more internal memory available. I can't even install updates for the apps I actually want. NO MORE MEMORY. There's only 161 MG of internal memory on this phone and my guess is that at least 100 MG is taken up by system apps and bloatware. Other than that, the phone functions pretty well, but I wish I had saved money and bought a regular phone since I can't install apps anyway. At least now I know what to look for when I buy a new phone.

Pros: looks nice
Cons: Did not meet expectations, unable to download certain apps, too many bugs, not easy to use
I'll begin with the double lock feature during phone calls.....I hate it and it's annoying! I bought this phone to use with certain apps, and the "ONE" app I really wanted is not compatible with this phone. When I turn on the phone to see the screen, if I don't unlock the phone "QUICKLY" it goes black again, and I have to turn on the phone again. I love Samsung products, I own 2 cameras by Samsung, and intend to purchase an HD tv, but I dislike this phone. Nothing is simple about this phone, prompt this, prompt that, go into this area to reach another area....where is the simplicity!? I am also unable to edit my contacts because the core program is not working, I had to delete the contact entirely in order to update it! I am also unable to pair my bluetooth earpiece or my gps with this phone. I downloaded an app but the icon never shows up, yet when I visit the app in android market it tells me I have it, but I can't see it with the rest of my apps in the launcher!? The instruction booklet does not explain what all the icons represent in the status bar. Sorry I bought this phone, I am unhappy with it!

Cons: Not high def, Did not meet expectations, not big enough, too light, camera
Boost Mobile and Samsung have surely put a kick into the market with this phone. I gave it a FAIR rating review and here is why...
DOWNSIDE:
1). The phone itself could have used some metal framing to make it stronger. I feel like I can crush the phone with my hand.
2). The screen and keyboard could have been bigger, I am a man and have big hands..
3). The touch and slide sensitivity and reactivity could be improved.
4). A phone like this should not have a CAMERA like that!
Upside:
1). I love the Android market
2). Boost Mobile is PREPAID!
3). SHRINKAGE
4). USB allows direct PC transferring
-------------------
If you notice the upside doesn't have much to do with the phone itself, but the NETWORK and MARKET.
--------------------------
All in all, I know you guys are going to come out with a phone that has a stronger build, a better camera and many many more features...and whats sad is that it may only be a few months away...But its BOOST, its PREPAID and Im TIRED of CONTRACTS! Thanks Boost & Samsung, keep them coming!!!

After all these stellar reviews, I'm starting to wonder if my phone just isn't a dud. I've read reviews of this phone on this site and others and unless there's some sort of conspiracy going on, most people seem to love it. Believe me, I want to love it. I left Sprint after 9 years for Boost to save money and figured, well, at least I'm still on the same network so speed shouldn't be a problem. Wrong!!
My internet is sooo slow it brings me to tears. My battery dies at LEAST 2x a day. (And yes, I know how to use the task manager and kill all running programs. Battery dies even when I haven't touched it all day.) It takes HORRIBLE pictures. Don't try to use the zoom feature. You only get distorted, pixelated pics. Multi-tasking is a joke. If I miss a call or a text, there is no vibrating/flashing light notification.
I had a Palm phone and just couldn't wait any longer for a new one after two years, but I am seriously eye-balling the 30 days I have to return this phone. Even my 2-year old phone was better than this.

Pros: Inexpensive
Cons: battery life, simply making calls is a chore, needs flash
if you love unlimited prepaid like i do, this phone is the only "smart" choice from Boost Mobile. Since i have nothing to compare it to but my old "dumb" phones i will say this. If you primarily use a phone to make calls and send messages don't get it. It has so many features and it is not a dedicated phone so simply making and receiving calls compared to a dumb phone is a chore and takes a little getting used to. However, if you like surfing the net and you tube it is truly awesome. it has a great browser and the 3G speed is a little slow but if you are in range of wi-fi it kicks butt. The speaker is a little weak but adequate. I have international friends and the Skype app with the unlimited data plan makes keeping in touch affordable. Flash would make it much better but is non-existent. Battery life is horrible, I have to charge it at every opportunity and it still dies sometimes. Overall I would recommend it for the price range, but if you have deep pockets there are better choices out there.

Cons: no voice record function
Because I have not owned a smartphone before, I did not have any info from which to form a biased opinion about this phone. I have had the phone about 3 weeks now and have been very satisfied with the functions of the phone. I am able to do all of the things that you would expect on a smartphone. The only glitch that I have had is the pre loaded program Twidroyd has to be force closed on a regular bases. I use the regular twitter app instead. I am still learning the phone and the Android system as well. The phone was purchased through Boost Mobile and I feel that I have gotten a very good deal on the phone. I wish the phone had a voice record feature for taking notes. There are tons of free apps that I have found in the market, I am already using several of them. I was surprised that the phone will play online videos, because I was incorrectly told that the phone would not play flash videos. I would recommend this phone to anyone that wants a smartphone at a very reasonable price

# of SAMSUNG products I own:3-5
Pros: Bright display, Inexpensive, Durable, Lightweight, versatile
Cons: some touchscreen functions impractical at times.
The Prevail is a good, inexpensive, and practical phone, full of interesting features and it doesn't take long to figure out how to use it either as a telephone or a means to play games, read books, listen to music, etc. It's lightweight and it was easy to connect it to my home network to use Wi-Fi.
One thing I don't like about this phone is the navigation controls at the bottom; when handling the Prevail, it's too easy to activate something or find yourself back at the beginning because you accidentally touched the return icon. Another thing I'm not happy with is how the phone's touchscreen locks when in phone mode; if you have to enter in numbers, you have to unlock the touchscreen, slide up the number pad, and hope you got the number(s) tapped in before something times out on you. It's a good feature to prevent accidental input - but I just think this could have been done better or made easier
Other than this, I like the Prevail and consider it one of my good purchases.

Pros: Bright display, Inexpensive, Lightweight, responsive, swype text, sleek looking, good pre installed apps
Cons: no flash support, not enough power, low end camera, locks up on occasion
This phone would be perfect if it had flash support and a teensy bit more power. The camera is decent quality despite the low megapixels, the screen is bright and clear and the touch screen is very responsive. However, it does lock up from time to time and the lack of flash support is a bummer. It can handle some pretty cool apps, but some major apps like netflix, a few games and anything involving tv do not work. Also barcode scanners do not work well because of the cameras quality, but that doesn't bother me much.
Video recording on this phone is slightly disappointing. Videos are laggy, jagged, pixilated and the sound quality is terrible. I feel like the videos could have been of slightly better quality. For the price I shouldn't be complaining, it's a very nice phone and I was actually impressed. I plan on using this phone until it dies. This phone is perfect for high school and college students on a budget.

I've been looking to get an Android phone for some time, but i didn't want a contract phone. I also didn't want to settle for whatever was available at the various pre-paid companies. Instead of buying the first Android handset offered by Boost, I waited to see if they would broaden their offerings. Well, the wait was well worth it, and I'm glad I didn't settle for the Motorola i1, which is a mediocre phone at best. This phone is well designed, has good responsiveness and is a pleasure to use. The best part of this phone is the price, very affordable. I would have liked the newest version of Android to be installed on the phone, and a bigger display would have been great. At the end of the day, I am very satisfied with the phone, and would readily recommend it to anyone looking for a mid-level Android handset. Compare it to any comparable handset, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Kudos, Samsung, well done!

My previous phone was a cheap flip phone which broke as soon as I got it. I didn't use it very often so it was fine for my needs at the time. I knew I wanted to purchase a Smartphone and looked for a long time, but when QVC offered it with payments I realized this was what would work for me. I did a little research and am so happy that I settled on this phone.
November, I drove from Minnesota to North Carolina and Virginia, lugging my laptop along with me. My phone was new and I learned many, many things about it as I drove the 3,000 miles. Somehow the cables for the laptop were left home, so I relied on my smartphone for emails as well. It worked great - and the swyping feature made it easy.
Actually, the camera is of an amazing quality, too!!!
I would recommend this phone to anyone who is looking for a phone that would be able to take care of their needs. It was a real help to me while on my 10-day trip.

Cons: Not high def, average camera, low memory
Phone is very light and nice, not one one the best phones out there, could be better if they could have updated to gingerbread or even to ice cream earlier. It has a okay camera, not exactly for photography. The display it contains is average, not HD but can be good enough for anyone to view and look out with out losing to much picture quality. It has a decent battery life and the froyo software it runs is pretty okay, no glitching or freezing so far. Could be better if you tweak it ;]. The phone currently runs in the boost mobile network with everything unlimited so its great when it comes to having unlimited access to data, calling, and text! If your looking for a phone that can do the job this is it but if you are looking for a phone that is top end then this might not be what your looking for. I currently have mines rooted so it works better so do some research and this phone can be very handy!

Don't get me wrong. I do love my phone. Prior to previous Boost phones this one does more than any of those. But the OS is Android 2.2.2 and Android already has a OS version of 2.3.2 which cannot be downloaded onto this phone. So no high definition viewing, plus a few other things aren't available with this phone. When I bought this phone, it was the ONLY smart phone Boost had available. I noticed when registering there is a newer Samsung Phone available, but not sure if it's a smart phone. Just wish when Boost finally got around to releasing a Smart Phone that Samsung and Boost had seen to it that we had the newest Android OS. And if not, made the phone to where it would allow for the upgrade. Just seems like Boost phones are always behind the times, even when their first released. That being said, I guess I should be Thankful we even have a smart phone available to us in the first place.

First I should say I MIGHT recommend this phone but there wasn't that choice... This is an okay product with some (in my opinion) serious set-backs. First the need to "revive" the phone whenever doing something for more than a few seconds is maddening! True you can set the time for a longer amount before it goes to sleep but then the battery life suffers greatly. The next biggest problem is that if you miss a call the phone will not alert you - no vibrate or flashing light etc. - you have to turn the phone on continually to check. I work in an environment where I cannot have my phone on (shouldn't even be out) and the need to continually revive it to check IF a call or text has come in is unacceptable for a phone with the features this one has. Third problem I have is that the touch screens are way too sensitive - continual miskeying or changing screens etc. Not the phone for me.

Cons: Did not meet expectations, poor 'touch' accuracy
Sorry, but this phone was a total fail for me.
The touch function was miserable. My fingers aren't that big and I still couldn't get any accuracy to speak of. Phone call quality was spotty at best, and making calls was ridiculous. For example: enabling the Power/Lock button to end a call DISABLED the ability of the button to cancel the screen lock feature, so right after starting a call, for some reason the 'Lock' button popped up on the screen, meaning the Lock button needed to be pushed to access the screen again (to enable speakerphone, etc.) but instead it ENDED THE CALL. What a massive fail, for the core purpose of the phone! And that's just the beginning. Also, since these reviews are not allowed to reference anything but the phone, I won't say anything about B00st M0bile's customer service.
I am returning the phone tomorrow.
WLB.

# of SAMSUNG products I own:3-5
Pros: Bright display, Inexpensive, Durable
Cons: not enough memory
I got this phone 9/12 from PlatinumTel, now an MVNO of T*Mobile, and I think that if I peeled off the PlatinumTel label, the Boost stencil would still be on it. It is a good phone and I like it a lot. It's a keeper.
It came with 2 texting programs, and I can't delete either, so my incoming texts always come in pairs. Slightly annoying.
Memory is a problem. I only have 6-8 apps, all stored on the 32GB micro SD card, but I apparently can't load any more or update existing, as I get fail notices telling me I don't have enough memory if I try. Fairly annoying.
Documentation could be better; as nothing in the manual tells me where certain things are stored (music, photos) so that I could make sure they are on the card and not taking up space I apparently need.
Still, a very good phone and I am always pleased with Samsung products.

Cons: kinda confusing at first, touch keys are a bit too small
This phone is a great value for the money, yet it has only a few flaws with it. The battery life gets gobbled up quickly if you do more than text or the occasional phone call.
I guess you can expect this from a phone with this many features though.
Only real major problem I have had was it powering off at night, and the alarm not going off in the morning.
Granted I won't turn off unexpectedly any other time, maybe it's a hibernation type of thing, maybe the setting are wrong or something in my configuration.
I wake it up in the morning, it was not dead, almost fully charged, but I have changed the setting since I got it though. I like this phone enough to where I will deal with it though.
It does what I want, when I want it to during the day.
I had 5 batteries for my other smart phone and it didn't do half the stuff this did.

Cons: too long to charge
I have to admit that this being my first Android Smartphone, I'm totally at awe with how it operates seamlessly with the Galaxy Prevail. The Prevail controls are thoughtfully laid out so there are only a few buttons that have to be utilized. The Camera takes fine photos, The Touch Screen sensitivity is just right for my large fingers, and the Touch Screen Keyboard is easy to manipulate. I love the 4 Home Screen idea which allows me to separate my Apps in categories, ie., Media, GPS Navigation/Maps, Files and Settings, etc. I am really happy I decided to make this purchase. 5 of my friends have bought this Prevail after seeing all the features it offers and the exceptional value for the money in this Smart Phone market. I'm sure even more Friends and Family will be following suit and purchasing this phone.

Pros: Built-in speakers, Bright display, Inexpensive, Realistic color, Lightweight, swype, internet is fast
Cons: battery life, no flash and poor camera quality
I left Verizon to find a way to reduce my monthly cell phone bills. I tried Straight Talk and absolutly hated my phone. I worked for Verizon for years, and have owned many many cell phones. When I saw that Boost was offering this phone, I jumped on it. The phone is great. The calls sound nice and clear, and I can do everything on it that I need and want to do. The Swype technology makes texting a breeze on the touch keyboard. I would recommend this phone to anyone. I gave it four stars instead of five, because the battery life could be better. I am a heavy phone user and I have to charge it twice a day. And for those that want to compare it to an Iphone, remember, its not an Iphone. If you want an Iphone, then sign the contract and pay the giant price. This phone is a great phone for a realistic price!

I was a tiny bit worried about getting the phone after reading some reviews. I was reading things like it freezing up, shutting itself down, etc. But I did a lot of research, watched several videos and finally decided to buy the phone. I have not had one single problem. It's a mid range Android, and my first Android so its features were easy to learn. I have had 3 and 4 programs running at the same time with no problem. I did install a task killer app and I'm smart enough to know how to keep my ram at a good number. Androids are little computers and you have to treat it as such. Bottom line, if you have a little common sense and know how to not bog your phone down, you can keep it running wonderful and you won't have those freezing and rebooting problems. I'm very happy with my choice!!

Cons: battery doesn't last for 3 days like my old flip
I had wanted a smartphone for a while and I finally NEEDED a new phone. I chose the Prevail because it was available from my provider. I LOVE IT! My wife keeps laughing at me because I'm on it all the time. Apps are awesome. Took a bit to get used to typing on it. Then I learned to Swype - great feature. Voice to text works great. Not fast internet (it is 3G) but better than I expected. If you are not sure if smartphones are right for you and you don't want to find out by spending big $$$, then this is the phone for you. I am happy with my purchase.
Oh - kill apps, turn off WIFI & GPS when you aren't using them and the battery will get you through the day. If you use it as much as I do, plan on charging it when you go to bed.
Also, I already dropped it on concrete - it didn't die.

Cons: Did not meet expectations, poor battery life, very small internal memory, not expandable
Overall I like this phone, however, what were they thinking when they limited the internal memory, you can basically run three or four of the biggest apps and the phone is already screaming that it is running out of space, sure it takes a micro SD card that should be big enough to handle your needs, but you can only use it to store music or other junk, it is not really expanding the internal memory for app use. It is infuriating to always have that :low on storage space" message. It is not fast enough to watch Netflix on it, the voice will be out of synch with the video. Wish I would've splurged on a higher end model. Oh yeah, the camera is useless if you can to use a scanner app, but odds you will not care because there isn't enough space on the phone for the scanner app anyway.

This phone, with the power of Android, on Boost Mobile/Sprint's network using 3G, gives me the most for my money. The shrinkage only doubles the value of this purchase. I've already been a Boost Mobile customer since the early 2000's, but having this phone eliminates the need to ever switch networks to get a better phone or strong signal. This phone, loaded with the right apps, makes it the Swiss Army Knife phone and makes the person prepared for any possible situation. I can do everything from watch movies, use it as an iPod or portable music player, load websites that other phones can't because of flash. There is so much I can do with it that I couldn't before on phones without Android. I would say that this phone has been my smartest and most satisifying phone purchase ever!

I switched to Boost Mobile and literally cut my phone bill in half, and its unlimited everything, so that's a plus. It does do everything, I think with swype, its better than the iPhone, but it takes some getting used to coming from a phone with a physical keyboard. I also miss my little LED light my old phone had, that would show me when I had a message, so I was able to keep in on silent. Can't do that with this phone. Pictures are good, and sound quality is great. I haven't had any service problems except at work, but my office is in the back of the building, so its somewhat understandable. I would truly love this phone if it had better battery life. I have to carry a charger with me everywhere, and rarely get more than 4 hours out of it, and that's just with texting/email.

Pros: Inexpensive, Bright display, flexability once rooted
Cons: not upgradable to gingerbread
I bought this phone about 2 months ago and it's a pretty decent phone for the price. But, in terms of Android phones, it's on the lower end of the spectrum. The major flaw is that it's NOT upgradable to Gingerbread as of right now even though another company just released a phone with the same hardware as this one and it runs Gingerbread. The speaker is pretty loud although I had to cut a bigger hole in the battery cover in order to hear calls, music etc more clearly from it. The battery life is decent but can be improved with one of the many power management apps available. All in all, if you're new to Android phones, this is a no frills starter phone. But, if you're a seasoned user and have used better phones, then avoid this one and go with something else.

I've waited a long time to upgrade from my trusty TracFone. I did not want to be one of those people always checking their phone for messages ... email ... texts ... to play games. And I did not want to pay an arm and a leg for a cell phone contract.
I did my research and was impressed with the Boost Mobile pay as you go plan with shrinkage. I chose the Samsung Galaxy Prevail because it gave me everything I needed and more. Cell phone, email, text and camera. I was fully prepared to continue using my iPod Touch for other apps but I haven't had to - I've been able to find all the same apps for free in the Android market.
I'm still slowly learning about the different features but even if I never use this phone to its full potential, I'm more than happy.

I love this phone. It does everything I wanted it to. Swype is intuitive for texting and it is not huge like many other Android offerings. It slides into my pocket and that's it. Poof, gone. It has the Apps I want and expandable to 16+GB SD card. It is great on battery life as I charge it about every day and a half, but I also don't use it like crazy.
I check email and play some games, look up some arguable issues with friends and can back it up with the information right there.
It is the right size phone for the right price and features. the only Con to this phone is the crapware that was preinstalled. I cannot free up the internal memory, even though I have 14GB of free space on the SD card. No fault of Samsung.

I have been waiting for Boost Mobile to add a decent phone to their line up for a couple of years. I was careful in selecting this phone and have been very happy with most things about it. Right away I noticed two (2) drawbacks. 1. I wonder why Samsung hasn’t made the phone Flash compatible, HTC has a phone running at 800 MHz phone that supports Flash and that one has loads of Bloat-ware to deal with as well. (I had one and it work well with Flash) The Prevail has almost NO bloat-ware. 2. The camera can’t focus well enough to use any “bar code” scanners and therefore can’t provide a decent picture for close shots or scanning most bar/QPC codes. Pictures shot from a distance (panoramic) are great. Over all I think this is a good phone for the price.

I ditched a 4 year old RAZR V3 to buy this phone and hence my title above. The phone runs plain vanilla Android 2.2 which turns out to be a great thing since there is little bloatware to be found and is very clean. I found the touch screen can be a little slow to repond sometimes..but just by a split second. I'm still getting accustomed to controls and the ever present lock screen. I understand why it's needed but hate it anyway. From what I've read of Android, the battery usage I'm experiencing is typical. Expect to charge it fully every day and get a car charger too. You'll need it. Don't expect to get anywhere near the claimed standy and talk time. Call quality seems OK. Camera is serviceable but not great. Speaker is typical and not great.

I came from a MyTouch 4G to this phone to save money on my monthly cell phone bill. I was expecting a drastic downgrade but its turned out to be not that at all! It does everything my MyTouch 4G did, with the exception of not having a front facing camera and camera flash, but I wasn't into video chatting or taking lots of pics with my phone anyway. Rating the performance 4 stars only because it does lag a bit, but lets be honest, ALL Android phones lag!! Comes with Vanilla Android 2.2 with the exceptions of the calendar and email app, but Android phones are highly customizable, so I made mine look almost identical to my MyTouch with a few apps from the Android Market. Highly recommend to new Android users or folks downgrading like me. :)

Pros: Built-in speakers, Inexpensive, Lightweight
Cons: performance
I was really impressed with the phone when it came out, the features, the style, the price all seemed well worth it.. at the time. The problem with the phone is the more you use it, the more you notice its flaws, mainly in performance.
It just can't keep up with a lot of apps. It freezes often and the response of the touch features is laggy almost to the point where ripping out the battery and starting from scratch is sometimes the only thing preventing me from tossing it in frustration.
design, very good. beautiful and thin. camera, meh, where's the flash? 1.3MP? why??
Sound/speaker is great, better than my laptop so that says something.
Like the title says, good attempt but you'll feel the frustration more than once.

Cons: lack of internal memory., processor only good for basic task.
I have this phone, thru Boost mobile. Its a decent phone, especially fr what I pay a month ($40), but Its DEFINITELY isn't "high end" so don't get your hopes up. The camera is "ok" in the right setting, its not going to replace your camera, and it don't have a flash so taking photos with poor light conditions isn't gonna happen. I have gotten pretty good picture in the sun tho. I think overall what annoys me is the lack of internal memory, even after rooting the phone and uninstalling some rooted apps, its still pretty bad. The phone kinda lags also....But for my baic needs (email, mp3 player and occasional web browsing) it does the job. I don't play games or watch videos because of the performance and internal memory.

Pros: Built-in speakers, Bright display
Cons: Did not meet expectations, low battery power, screen freezes, touch screen doesn't pick up touch
Everything is wonderful EXCEPT the touchscreen has problems. It freezes often and the most annoying thing is that the touch screen doesn't pick up my touch constantly. Like when I'm calling someone, I can't hang up! I'm forced to leave this awkward voicemail until the button works after the 50th time being pressed. I've spoken with other Android owners and they say that has happened to them, but not as bad as mine. It could just be this certain, flawed phone.
One other thing is that the battery doesn't stay charged long at all. I love all of the apps, but I don't use them much and I keep everything not running and only have a couple of apps (weather, news) to update once a day and the battery STILL dies constantly.

I do have experience using my tablet with android 2.2 but I never touch a phone with android as user.
Incredible that all was setup as soon as I enter my google gmail account. All was done. All my contacts were setup with all phones numbers, My email was also working, my pictures were already on the phone accessing Picassa, My you tube was kicking . I am new with this but I like it.
Taking Pictures with phone is just Ok. Easy and fun.
Applications from Google Maket
I cannot ask for more seems that my tablet becomes obsolete. This phone does al that I need:
Phone calls
Emails
Messages and texting
Web (through phone or through wifi)
Some games
Some Angry Bird
I still learning. But all seems fine

I really like the Galaxy Prevail from Samsung for Boost mobile.
I feel this is a great phone for consumers that want an Android phone. If you are in the market to save money as well.
This phone lacks o couple features that would make the product great!
Otherwise everything else is perfect!
The features that are lacking are the camera.
Lets face it, we are in 2011. This phone should have a standard high quality camera. With a flash feature. This phone should have at least a 4.0 mp camera with flash. That is it's only downfall. Samsung make a newer model with these improvements. I'm sure the praises would roll in. Also make the screen a little bigger next time, not the phone though.

The Prevail is very temperamental. It does not like to be hot, so keep the phone as cool as possible.
Upgrade your card to a 16 g, over a 4 or 8. If there is a 32 g out there, get one. Prevail needs memory to function, so be aware of your apps. Turn them off if you are not using them. Also be aware of aftermarket apps, as they do cause most crashes that everyone is complaining about. Most of all, make sure that you use the charger that Samsung recommended or you may over tax the charging system and the Prevail will throw a tantrum before you know that the power /charging management system is the problem. Prevail is a good phone at it's level, but it is not a high powered phone.

I don't know alot about smartphones and have nothing to compare this one against since it's my first one, but all I can say is I'm sold on this one. Great features and pretty solid in the way it performs. As for any problems I've encountered, they seem to be more related to the carrier than the actual phone itself. These are the same problems I had with my older phone that wasn't an android phone. I've had friends and family that have smart phones and iphones that really liked mine. Some of them liked the Galaxy Prevail better than theirs which were newer models. I've only had this phone for 15 days so it's too new to know how durable or how it performs in the long run.

Overall the phone has a nice level of features for the price. But I've been through two of these phones now and both have had the same issue that makes the phone fairly unusable. If you search for "Prevail Charging Problems" you will see what I mean. These phones somehow get stuck where they thinking they are charging all the time, even when they are not plugged in. This prevents you from figuring out how much battery you have left, which makes the phone pretty useless because you don't know when it is going to die on you.
You can do better than this Samsung. I know it is an inexpensive phone, but at least it should be able to perform basic functions like charging.

I purchased this phone about a month after it came out and I am less than satisfied with it. While in the store we opened three phones before one would even hold service or access the internet. Since then my phone is always dropping calls or shutting off. Sometimes the top half of the screen will freeze while I am composing a message. Pressing the lock button a few times usually remedies the problem but it is more aggravating when I cannot disconnect a phone call because the screen has frozen. I also have a very hard time typing on the keyboard. I am even more dissatisfied with my phone since the latest update. Now everything is all messed up! Thanks Samsung.

Not the best bot out of the box. I've only have mine for 2 weeks and found it to be cumbersome at times. Needs a trackball for one and the other is more ram for apps. I have to send mine in for service today as it won't reboot without a jump from my charger. Then if it does boot past the batter icon, it will show that the charger is plugged in it when it is not. Another annoying fact is the connect and disconnect beep that randomly happen when the phone is on or off the charger. The factory charger that came with it will now prompt a message asking if I want to charge or connect to the computer. So now it doesn't recognize it's own charger from a usb cable.

I love this phone. Simple. Android & Samsung have out done themselves. This phone, in my opinion is better than an iPhone or iPad for that matter, since they don't support Adobe Flash player. Not only does this phone, but it has access to the Android Market, and included GPS. I love everything about it. My signal gets a tad iffy, because we are on Boost which is under a lower signal for Sprinit. However it's only in the Mts. or in an elevator, or in my basement, in some places... otherwise beautiful. Beautiful, not too big, but big enough to enjoy - and has swype which makes texting on a touch screen so much nicer. I wouldn't trade this for a thing!

First:
When using your voice mail it will Auto lock on you and before you can check your messages it requires you to unlock it . This is completely annoying and there is no setting to turn this off, Why would you have this on here its completely redundant.
Second:
instead of sliding the lock button to the right to unlock your phone, why not just touch it and type in your password. Sliding it to the right doesn't always like to work. This would be way simpler and way cooler.
Third:
Battery life, the Battery life just isnt there im lucky to get 5 hours out of my phone before i have to plug it in.
Fix these problems and it would be a Excellent phone!!

This is my 1st smartphone and I didnt know what specific features to look for but I really like this phone and mostly all of the features. I like the huge selection of apps that I can download. The phone is not as complicated as I would have expected. The only two things that I dont like about the phone is that is doesnt have a front camera (for video chat) and that they internal and external memory was sooo low. So Im really limited on what apps I can download until I get a new memory card. Im really excited to see the other things this phone has to offer once I get more storage space. But overall this is a really cool phone and I love it!!!

I have had this phone since last christmas. This phone is horrible. It closes out my apps randomly, mainly twitter and messaging. It locks up, and the lock button has gotten stuck on me plenty of times. Of all of the Samsung Galaxy phones out there, this is the worst. This phone is inexpensive because it is cheap. The phone's memory is next to none, and the company apps that you don't want you can't delete. The only good thing I have to say about this phone is that mine has been dropped, stepped on, jumped on and it hasn't cracked or broken yet. It has a few scratches, but that's expected when you have a cell phone. Don't waste your money.

I have been a Blackberry owner for years and when my phone died I went to the store with every intent on purchasing another Blackberry. The salesman suggested the Samsung Galaxy Prevail and gave me a brief summary of its features. It seemed to have all of the features I sought and its styling and price made it the natural choice. I have now had it for a short time and it has out performed my expectations. The processing speed is unmatched by any other phone I have used, the choice and variety of apps are more than I will ever be able to exhaust. I am more than pleased with its performance will recommend this phone to as many as I can.

This phone preforms well overall, touch screen, speed and all that are great. however there are a few small annoyances. first the on phone memory is quite small (161MB)which wouldn't be a problem except that Samsung puts a bunch of programs on the phone that you can't remove! it's not that these apps are bad or overly large but they are ones that I can not or will not use. For example there are 2 GPS programs and I can't get rid of ether! The thing is I got a android phone so that I can configure it how I like. I don't have a problem with the phone coming with apps (even lots of apps) but we should have the ability to remove them.

Pros: Lightweight
Cons: Did not meet expectations
I have owned my phone for approx. 7 months. Very early on I noticed that the letters on the keypad were so small that I could not text as quickly or effectively as I was accustomed to. The next problem was ending calls. Everytime I tried to end calls the phone would "freeze" up. Sometimes the phone would juggle back and forth between screens as if it were confused. During this time I would have to wait until the phone finished it's "tantrum".On many, many occasions I would have to completely power the phone off in order to get the phone back to it's normal state. At times the phone seemed too sensitive-if that is even possible.

Pros: Bright display, Inexpensive, Lightweight, speech to text, wifi support, customize home screen with shortcuts and widgets, task manager
Cons: Not high def
Very easy to use, great apps, smooth operation! Texting on this device took some getting used to, but the speech to text feature is a nice touch with very few errors if speak slowly and clearly. Picture and video quality is not the greatest but fair. You can listen to your music while performing other tasks and surfing the web. The wifi is cool. Has a task manager to end apps running in the background, and provides usage info on the 282mb available ram. Youtube for those of you that live on there. :-) Can't speak on the battery life at this point, but overall I feel this was a great deal for a device with many great features!
