When will AVI/MP4/MKV files actually work?
Even with the latest firmware AVI/XVID/MP3, MP4/H.264/AAC and MKV/H.264/AC3 files often don't work. They will start fine but the audio will slowly drift out of sync with the video. After 5-10 minutes of play time the audio will be about 1 second off. Hitting pause will resync but that gets annoying. Not all files do this but at least 90% that I've tried don't work. I've tried with files burned to a disk, read from a USB stick and streamed from Windows 7. All the files work properly on my XBOX (except MKV of course) so it isn't broken files.
Until this problem gets fixed, I won't be buying anything else from Samsung.
Have you tried downloading samsung allshare? Are you encoding these MKV's yourself?
There has been success when using other audio codecs/compression when trying to play both HD MKV's and 3D SBS MKV's. Grab an application like dvdfab and re-encode with different audio types based on your setup (surround, tv audio, etc), if you are only using tv speakers for audio then a stereo output conversion would be optimal and the file will be smaller in size as a result even. The higher end audio output types create problems because, frankly its a LOT to process while decoding video for these devices. If you are "sharing"/"acquiring" these mkv's, pay attention to whoever has better compatibility with your setup and stick to them for encodes.
