The Galaxy Tab is an incredible device. It has far exceeded my wildest expectations. I thought it was going to be "pretty cool" but I never expected the level of polish and design that went into the tab. Everything from the hardware to the software is filled with thoughtful touches that really put the Tab in a class of its own.
My main computer-use habits break down into two classes: content creation and content consumption. I produce music, write, program, and create digital art. All of those tasks require powerful hardware and my Core i5 laptop chews through it. But for the other stuff -- email, reading the web, watching videos, the computer just seemed like overkill in a lot of ways. It is big, heavy, over-powered, and eats battery. One weekend with the Tab and I can safely say the computer can stay in the studio and the Tab can replace all of the casual day-to-day reading, watching, and listening.
You have to hand it to Samsung. They knocked it out of the park on this one. The hardware is amazing and Sammy must have some real sharp software people because this is the best incarnation of Android I've ever seen. The Samsung apps like music, email, contacts, and web browser are all top notch in terms of design and functionality. In fact, the entire Android OS has been given a new coat of paint by Samsung that makes it look far better than the stock Android available on other devices.
I could go on and on: the size, the weight, the feeling in the hand, the responsiveness -- you get the picture. Don't give it a second thought, go out and get a Galaxy Tab today. There's nothing out there that can hold a candle to it.
